The obesity epidemic challenges medical professionals to provide a comprehensive weight loss solution that results in weight loss success and long-term weight loss maintenance. Today, many medical professionals are meeting this need by setting up weight management programs within their practices and including the Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) as an option. A VLCD is a medically supervised, time-tested solution for patients with more than 40 pounds to lose (men at least 50 pounds). It meets the comprehensive needs of patients, distinguishes your service from non-medical providers in your marketplace, and generates new profits in the first year of business.
This Preconference provides insight into the step-by-step tools for setting up a weight management program and includes clinical effectiveness of treatment options, including VLCD, as well as business aspects of program development and management. Taught by a multidisciplinary team of seasoned medical professionals whose practice is dedicated to caring for obese patients, this Preconference will enable you to: |
- Define the science and nutrition of the Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD), including essential nutrients, meal planning, benefits, risks and effectiveness in a weight loss program.
- Describe screening, testing, monitoring, patient qualifications and contraindications when considering a VLCD program.
- Through a case-based approach, identify key considerations when using VLCD in special circumstances, including selected chronic conditions, during adolescence and with bariatric surgery patients.
- Highlight issues surrounding use of VLCD in combination with weight loss medications as well as dealing with drugs that cause weight gain.
- Develop comprehensive and practical strategies for starting a weight management program, including roles and responsibilities of the multidisciplinary team, operations, marketing and outcomes analysis.
