Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an effective, evidencebased therapy designed to treat individuals with complex, chronic, difficult-to-treat Axis I and Axis II disorders. Whether or not such individuals are participating in comprehensive DBT treatment, they are likely to have contact with frontline clinical staff in mental health programs. Having a foundation in DBT principles and a wide array of concrete strategies to use with these clients can help staff maintain compassion, increase effectiveness, and reduce their likelihood of burnout.
This training is designed for all front-line clinicians who work with this population in a variety of treatment contexts. Participants will learn the underlying principles of DBT, and how to structure contact with clients around DBT assumptions, agreements, and targets. Special attention will be paid to those challenging situations that can result in burnout for staff members.
